Helping Our Clients “Fare” Better

Helping Our Clients "Fare" Better

One of the many ways immigrant have gotten started in New York is by driving cabs and, at BCNA, we are proud to have many hardworking immigrant cab drivers and livery car drivers among our clients. We support them, not only with loans to help them expand their businesses, but also by keeping them abreast of important changes to laws and regulations.

Because the Taxi and Limousine Commission (TLC) is now accepting
applications for Street Hail Livery (SHL) licenses, for instance, BCNA has been working closely with the TLC to provide orientation sessions for livery drivers to help them determine if applying for the new license is right for them.

This new opportunity will Picturemean that cars services with the new SHL license can now pick up passengers by street hail anywhere outside of Manhattan (except for the airports) and by street hail or dispatch in Manhattan north of West 110th street and north of East 96th St.

Because this will have a very positive impact on many of our clients’ livelihoods — and only 6,000 SHL licenses will be issued each year (until 18,000 are issued) — BCNA loan officers have been very active helping clients begin the application process. We have also already issued 19 loans to cover the costs of applying (over $2,500) and bringing vehicles up to code (approximately $3000.)

The yardstick by which we are judged – and judge ourselves – is not only  how many loans we make but also the impact our support has on our clients. We are very pleased to be collaborating with the  TLC on what we think will have a very significant impact on the lives, and livelihoods, of some of our hardest working clients, and their families.
