Reaching “Goals” Through Community Outreach
The Pottal Fii Bhantal Fouta Djallon Soccer Tournament in the Bronx is one of the highlights of the summer in the Guinean refugee community. And this year, BCNA was proud to sponsor Toudue, a team whose Guinean players ranged in age from 18 to 25, and who placed 3rd out of the 12 teams that competed in the summer-long tournament.
While we promote BCNA by putting ads in community newspapers, listing our events on websites, and handing out flyers in immigrant neighborhoods, our best clients have always come to us through either referrals from satisfied clients and through sponsorship and networking at community events.
Sponsorship of community events has been a wonderful way to show our support for communities with scarce resources. These sponsorships have ranged from a lunch to celebrate Mother’s Day in the Liberian refugee community on Staten Island; to an evening of music and good food at a fundraiser for Adhikaar, an excellent worker’s rights organization; to this latest initiative: jerseys, a trophy, and some refreshments for passionate and talented young soccer players.
While we were thrilled that our team came in 3rd, we were also very pleased that we were able to use our marketing dollars to help bring the community together through healthy outdoor fun, while spreading the word about how BCNA continues to help immigrant communities and entrepreneurs.
