Pleased to be Honored Once Again for SBA Loans to Enterprising New Yorkers

Yesterday, the Business Center for New Americans (BCNA) was honored by the Small Business Administration‘s New York District Office with a Special Achievement Award for having made the most microloans with SBA Funds in New York District. The event, which was led by John Mallano, Deputy District Director, SBA’s New York District Office, was sponsored by the New York Business Development Corporation (NYBDC) and took place at the The Harvest Room, in Queens.

This year the Business Center for New Americans was pleased not only to have made the largest number of loans with Small Business Administration (SBA) funds in the New York District but the second most loans in the country.

Beth Goldberg, the new head of the SBA’s NY District Office, presented the awards. Leonid Ostrovsky, Director of Lending at BCNA, and Maria Paulino, Loan Officer, received the award on behalf of BCNA.

Of the $14 million in microloans made by BCNA to businesses in New York City since 1998, 1,985 loans, totaling $11 million dollars, have been made using SBA funds.

This was the 8th time we’ve received the award for having made the most loans in the New York District and, while we’re proud of that achievement, we’re particularly proud that we can ensure access to credit to New York  micro-business owners like Juan Quelal,  who needed $3,000 to pay for the insurance for his Street Hail Limo, or Lissellot Montilla who received a loan of $10,000 to purchase equipment for her beauty salon in the Bronx, who used their loans to purchase inventory and equipment.

Our congratulations go to Justine Peterson, which made the most loans with SBA funds nationally, for the excellent work they are doing in St. Louis.

Congratulations, too, to the twenty one other financial institutions that were honored for various achievements in lending to micro and small businesses in New York City. The awardees included two of our funders, Empire State Development Corporation, which received a Pinnacle Award and Wells Fargo which received a Silver Award. They and all the other awardees deserve not only our congratulations, but our heart-felt thanks for making New York a better place for small and micro business owners and therefore a richer and more diverse community.

We very much appreciate the support of the SBA staff at the local office and  the main office in Washington, D.C., in helping us achieve our goals. We’re looking forward to continuing the partnership for a highly successful 2016!
